Chapter 1, part 2

"What's wrong, Sickle? Go ahead, you can tell me, I won't judge." said Hammer. "You promise?" asked Sickle. "Of course." said Hammer. Hammer was sitting next to Sickle now. Sickle turned toward Hammer. "Hammer, I'm... I'm... oh I can't say it. I don't understand anything, why am I like this?" Hammer felt a little concerned, but wanted to help. "It'll be okay, we can figure this out together. You and me." Hammer smiled. Sickle just had to say it... "I'm a girl."

"You're a girl?" Hammer felt confused. "But I thought..." Hammer paused. "Help me understand, what do you mean when you say you're a girl?" Sickle had to think about this. She already knew how intolerant people can be. A thousand ghastly scenarios played out in her head. Her mind felt like a complete mess of confusion, total chaos. She didn't expect anyone to ask that.

"Well... I feel out of place among boys. Thinking about myself being a girl makes me feel happy. It feels right." Sickle winced. "Aren't I a creep for thinking that? Imagine feeling like a girl, wanting people to see you that way? You must think I'm the worst." "No," disagreed Hammer, "I would love to have a big sister as kind as you. There's nothing wrong with what you are, and I'll stand by you on that."

"Uh... what do you want me to call you then?" asked Hammer. "Just Sickle is fine," she said, "Sickle is still a good name for a girl like me." Hammer smiled. "Yeah, Sickle is a nice and cute name to have." And the two bear hugged each other.
